Russ Barnes

Northampton, UK House Tech House Deep House Techno +2

Russ Barnes is a DJ originally from Leicester but currently based in Northampton. His interest in DJing ignited at the age of 13 when listening to industry luminaries Pete Tong, Seb Fontaine and Judge Jules on Radio 1 made him want to take it up as a hobby.

Russ purchased his first set of decks when he was 18 and started mixing with vinyl records, playing everything and anything from House, Trance and Hard House. Five years later he began experimenting with digital software – a decision that quickly paid dividends – enabling him to mix more tracks on the fly and travel record-free.

Throughout his career, Russ has received praise from various third parties. His name was mentioned in Toolroom Records’ anniversary compilation album – Toolroom Ten – and he was then invited to the label’s HQ in March 2014, meeting Mark Knight and the rest of the team to discuss the label and brand. In June 2013, he was crowned ‘DJ of the Week’ by BPM as part of their DJ of the Year competition.

Russ was chosen to perform at the Birmingham NEC for BPM 2013. He played a 30 minute DJ set on the PLAY@BPM stage on Saturday, 14th Sept 2013. The event was held over 3 days.

More recently, on Saturday the 9th of August, Russ opened the Dance Arena at Leicester’s Strawberry Fields Festival. This line-up included Ibiza DJ legend Steve Lawler, who came up to the decks to greet Russ as he delivered his 90 minute set.
