Leicester based DJ Russ Barnes’ interest in DJing was ignited when, at 13 years old,
he heard 'Big Love' by English electronic and house music producer Pete Heller. Four
years later at the age of 17, he purchased his first set of decks and soon enough built
up his record collection of progressive house and trance. Having played with vinyl
for over 5 years, he made the switch and began experimenting with digital software, a
decision that quickly paid dividends, enabling him to mix more tracks on the fly and
be able travel record-free. Working under the names of Elektrofunker and LETHAL
BPM5, he has to date, produced various mixes including a guest mix for Dirty Loyal's
- Essential Review show on online radio station, UPFront Radio (first played on
Monday 4th June 2012 at 22:00 [GMT].)
Having experimented over the years with various sounds including Dubstep, Russ’
main focus is that of his first love, electro and progressive house. 2012 has also seen
Russ gain attention from one of the biggest names in EDM, deadmau5, showing his
love for the visual elements of Russ’ work on twitter, “@ru55barnes for some reason,
i really like your logo”. Other notable supporters include LA based female DJ Colette,
with additional support from UK DJ/producers, The Squatters, Original Dysfunction, British
Tent Villains, Will Clarke, Fenton Gee and Rosie Romero.
Before the end of 2012, Russ met The World's No.1 Female DJ, Lisa Lashes during a RocknRolla gig held in Birmingham (UK).
