Russ Barnes

Leicester, UK Techno House Electro House Progressive House +2

Leicester based DJ Russ Barnes’ interest in DJing was ignited when, at 13 years old, he heard '9pm (Till I Come)' by German Trance DJ and producer ATB (aka André Tanneberger). Four years later at the age of 17, he purchased his first set of decks and soon enough built up his record collection of Progressive House and Trance. Having played with vinyl for over five years, he finally made the switch and began experimenting with digital software, a decision that quickly paid dividends, enabling him to mix more tracks on the fly and be able travel record-free. Working under the names Elektrofunker and LETHAL BPM5, he has produced various guest mixes for underground radio stations.

Having experimented over the years with various sounds including Dubstep, Russ’ main focus is that of his first love, electro and progressive house. 2012 has also seen Russ gain attention from one of the biggest names in EDM, deadmau5, showing his love for the visual elements of Russ’ work on twitter, “@ru55barnes for some reason, i really like your logo”. Other notable supporters include LA based female DJ Colette, with additional support from UK DJ/producers, The Squatters, Fenton Gee and Rosie Romero.

Before the end of 2012, Russ met The World's No.1 Female DJ, Lisa Lashes during a RocknRolla gig held in Birmingham (UK).

In June 2013, Russ was crowned ‘DJ of the Week’ by BPM (@visitbpm). Russ has been listed in the latest Toolroom Records compilation album 'TOOLROOM TEN' - which features huge tracks from the past decade.

Russ was chosen to perform at the Birmingham NEC for BPM 2013. He played a 30 minute DJ set on the PLAY@BPM stage on Saturday, 14th Sept 2013. The event was held over 3 days, Saturday 14th through to Monday 16th Sept 2013.

BPM is the world’s largest event dedicated to DJing, Electronic Music Production and Entertainment Technology. Visitors include DJs, producers, performers, promoters, venue owners/managers, equipment retailers/installers, technicians, record label representatives, students and many others who simply have an interest in DJing or electronic music.

Today Russ continues to fight his way through the DJ scene, fuelled by his love of BIG BEATS! With hopes that one day he’ll be noticed and given the chance to play to a crowd on a regular basis.

Russ will be playing a 90 minute DJ set in the Dance Arena at the Strawberry Fields Festival on Saturday 9th August 2014. He will be sharing the decks with Ibiza DJ legend, Steve Lawler. Tickets are available from
