John Johnson has been working in the music biz for over a decade and achieved great success with his production and remix work in the international dance music scene. He amassed over 250 productions and remixes over the span of more than 15 years.
In the early beginnings in 1996 he started producing and remixing under his guise Power Dove. His best known track as Power Dove was his remix of Dovebeat’s – LaPaloma on Sounds Good Records which became an instant classic. Having remixed the likes of John Digweed's Bedrock and Underworld, as well as other well known EDM artist's, there was a fight to sign John for his solo projects. IDJ (a sub-company of Ministry of Sound, London) won that bid and signed John in May 1999. Johns first single, "Impact", was released in June 2000 to critical acclaim from the likes of Sasha, Armin van Burren, Carl Cox and Radio 1 master, Pete Tong.
It can certainly be said that John managed to put his name on the map in no time. He released the monster “City E.P.” in 2001 which was another great success. The title track “London” was featured as opener of Jimmy Van M’s Bedrock compilation. John's DJ career also took off big time. In the UK you could see him regularly at Cream, Gatecrasher, Gallery, Inside Out, Type and in various locations all over the world form Buenos Aires, Tokyo, Helsinki, Ibiza, New York, Paris, Berlin and many more.
In 2006 after many years of heavy travelling and massive work loads John became serious ill and had to take a long break, away from the music biz in order to concentrate on getting his health back. During this really difficult time in his life, the love for the music was something that never went away and helped him thru the long painstaking process to fully regain his health.
After recovering from his illness and back to full strength he started the New York Stories and Central Park Session’s mix compilations series, as a tribute to the city he loves and calls home, in which he manages to find the perfect balance between progressive house, techno and tech house sounds blended into great mixes. John Johnson 050 – Anniversary Edition will be released September 30th 2012 to showcase that he really is back to his old self! Welcome back JJ, we missed you.
