Cleveland, OH, USA Drum & Bass

Todd H. aka emplate first heard the sounds of jungle/drum n bass in the summer of '96 and was instantly hooked. Having been a drummer for years and influenced by hip hop, metal, industrial, classical, jazz, etc., he felt as if the music he had just experienced was a melting pot of everything he had heard before it. He promptly started going to as many parties and clubs as possible and grabbing several mixtapes in the process. In '99 after hearing Known Unknown - Drum Trip (Rollers Edit) on the Bulletproof mixtape Dieselboy - The Director's Cut, he knew he had to start buying vinyl to get all the tunes he wanted to hear @ home. Having been to local vinyl emporium Grand Poo-bas grabbing fliers & mixes for the last few years, he saw the rush of DJs on a Saturday afternoon all fighting to get their tunes for the party that night. He instantly had respect for this culture and knew that it took more than just a pair of 1200s to make you legit. Knowledge, selection, skill, hours of practice and love for the music now became an everyday mandate. After years of playing small events, side rooms and house parties he got his first break when in 2006 he was asked by Secret Sauce & Zeno to be a resident at the now defunct Wednesday weekly "in:verse" held at Touch Supper Club. The night gained respect throughout North America for showcasing local talent alongside names like Klute, Flight, Random Movement, Submorphics, Carbon Community & more. In the years following this, emplate made several new friends in the scene & went on to help develop The Cleveland Drum n Bass Coalition and (216) Bass, both platforms for Northeast Ohio DnB heads to use as a vehicle for their careers. Since then they have gone on to do several events and weeklies throughout clubs in Cleveland, including the Monday weekly "study:sessions" and events such as "Clash of the Titans", "Oscillate", "DrumFusion", "Bring Your Own Bass" and more. During this time emplate has been actively involved with bookings and promotion always eager to help out wherever he can. He has also worked alongside other local promoters: Tek-Know?, Re(vision), SUB:merged, CMHA, Cool House Collective, Spin Cycle, Jessica George, Le Boom, Electric Tuna and more to support the scene. He has helped bring in Artists such as: Matrix & Futurebound, A Sides, Random Movement, Atlantic Connection, LTJ Bukem, Sinistarr, Kjell, Dave Shichman, Submorphics, Mixmaster Doc, Dave Owen, Strife, Joe Nice, Simon Slum, Chuck Flask, abZ, DJ Pyscho and more.

Priding himself on being a diverse DJ that always keeps his box up to date with the latest releases, promos, white labels and test presses on vinyl, emplate sets are based on time slot, crowd, club and vibe.
